Aguada Fort Information

Sightseeing in Goa is incomplete without a visit to Fort Aguada, this fort  is situated at the estuary of the river Mandovi on the northern side of the fort, a rampart made of red-brown laterite stone  just into the bay forms a jetty between two small sandy coves. This picturesque spot is known as Sinquerim Beach. This fort built by the   Portuguese in 1609-1612  houses the Central Jail and a 19th Century Lighthouse. 

This fort is located on the Calangute Sinquerim Aguada-Siolim Road and can be easily reached by road. Tourists can visit this fort without any entry fee. Recently Chief Minister dr Pramod sawant  along with the local MLA had inspected the work of the  work of beautification of Aguada Jail Complex sanctioned by the Ministry of Tourism under the Swadesh Darshan Scheme  the Aguada jail will also have a museum, showing the freedom struggle of Goa against the Portuguese rule. It is a part of the Aguada Fort in Sinquerim village near River Mandovi in North Goa. The renovated jail structure will greatly focus on two special cells, where freedom fighters Ram Manohar and TB Cunha were jailed during their struggle against the Portuguese.the jail will be inaugrated at the hands of honorable Prime minister Narendra Modi  this year . the fort is open for the tourists from 9:00 AM – 6:30PM all days of the week
