CONGRESS PAYS TRIBUTE TO INDRA GANDHI ON HER 104TH BIRTH ANNIVERSARY
MAPUSA: North Goa District Congress Committee and Office Bearers on Friday paid floral tributes by garlanding the portrait, to commemorate the 104 birth anniversary of the first lady prime minister Indra Gandhi
The North Goa Congress District Committee President, Vijay Bhike hailed the country’s first women Prime Minister as a visionary who gave up her life for the love of the nation
“Indira Gandhi was a central figure of the Congress party who gave us the opinion poll even when the congress party was not in power in the state which helped in protecting the identity and culture of Goa “said Bhike
speaking further former Calangute MLA Agnelo Ferandes said Indra Gandhi went to war with Pakistan in support of the Independence in East Pakistan which resulted in an indian Victory and creating of Bangladesh
“today there is Chinese incursion and chinese cities have sprung up in India but the present leaders are scared of fighting our neigbhours but late indra Gandhi represented strength and She epitomised sacrifice” said Agnelo Ferandes
also present were for the function were Calangute Block President, Benedict Dsouza former Calangute MLA Agnelo Ferandes councillor Tarak Arolkar,,vice-president of Mapusa congress block sikandar Swar, GPCC vice president Babi Bagkar and other congress leaders and party workers.
Born on November 19, 1917, to India’s first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and Kamala Nehru, Indira Gandhi served as the first and only woman prime minister of the country from January 1966 to March 1977 and again from January 1980 until her assassination in October 1984.
