CONGRESS PROTEST AGAINST TRAFFIC MESS AT GOA VELHA, 48-HOURS ULTIMATUM TO STATE GOVT
PANAJI: Congress members staged a peaceful demonstration at Goa Velha on Tuesday afternoon without disturbing the traffic, in protest to the State authorities’ failure to streamline the traffic at either sides of Zuari Bridge. The Government needs to alert commuters about closure of specific roads and recommend alternative routes to avoid any inconvenience. There is a need for traffic police personnel to be deputed at various points to solve this traffic mess.
The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President, Girish Chodankar said “People are facing hardships because there is no proper coordination here. This is the result of failed leadership of Dr. Pramod Sawant and his government,”
While the GPCC Working President and MLA Curtorim, Alex Reginaldo Lourenco hit out at the BJP-led government for its insensitive attitude towards the commuters. “The government that has been formed by stealing MLA’s has no mandate. They are putting the public into grave inconvenience. Those traveling via this route are taking two to three hours to get to their destination. This is the shortest route to go to GMC from South Goa. Throughout the day there are traffic jams witnessed on either side of the Zuari Bridge,” said Lourenco.
The North Goa Congress District Committee President, Vijay Bhike highlighted that the government needs to take cognizance of the traffic jams caused on a daily basis due to the on-going road widening work. He also gave a 48-hour ultimatum to the state government to make the route congestion free or else threaten to agitate and wave black flags to Ministers traveling via that route.
“The common man is forced to take to the streets due to this insensitive, incapable and irresponsible government. The BJP government has no concern for the plight of the common man. They have failed to provide the people with basic amenities like water, electricity and roads. Congress undertook this protest against the traffic mess near Goa Velha Junction to alert this government. Pot-hole ridden roads, no proper signage, diversions and various other issues are being faced by commuters across Goa. Congress will always stand by the people,” said Bhike.
Also present was the Vice President, Sankalp Amonkar ; GPCC Vice President Gurudas Natekar; Youth Congress President, Adv. Varad Mardolkar; Ex-Mayor, Surendra Furtado; GPCC Vice-President, Hemant Naik and Secretary, Ramkrishan Jalmi; St Andre Block President, Manoj Palkar ; St Andre Leader, Mohan Dhond; St Andre District Secretary, Savio Monteiro and other office bearers.
