Chidambaram while interacting with representatives of various NGOs, said that BJP has done injustice on NGO’s by restricting their functioning.

He said that the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had rejected application of Missionaries of Charity’s for renewal of the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act registration on pretext that eligibility conditions were not met. “Many NGO’s working in the welfare of people are suffered due to this act.” He said.

“Political parties express Peoples desire, but if political parties go against desire and interest of people then they have the right to throw them out.’’ He said.

“Whilst meeting people from various constituencies of Goa, they told me that the unique and rich culture of Goa, environment and history of Goa is under threat. If this is true, then all will have to act for welfare of Goa.” Chidambaram said.

“People of Goa need to answer who is damaging the unique identity of Goa and also democracy. If you find an answer then you should speak, write and act to eradicate those threats.

“This is the time that we also eradicate autocracy and dictatorship.” He said.

“It is a wrong belief that political parties have power. Fortunately power is with people and they can bring change however they want.” Chidambaram opined.

He said that Congress will become the voice of Goa and will be fully equipped to deal with problems. “I promise you all, one we form government Congress leaders will come back to you and will consult to run the government.” He assured.

In a scathing attack against BJP, Chodakar said that the BJP government killed the democracy of Goa and is now trying to sabotage the functioning of NGO’s.

Adv. Carlos Alvares Ferreira moderated the interaction and Capt Viriato Fernandes thanked the NGOs and those who had attended.
