REVOLUTIONARY GOANS ANNOUNCES COMPREHENSIVE POLICY FORREVOLUTIONARY GOANS ANNOUNCES COMPREHENSIVE POLICY FOR AGRICULTURE SECTOR

PANAJI: As part of its fifth election promise, the Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) on Monday announced a comprehensive policy for the agriculture sector.

RG founder member Manoj Parab said that the party will focus on reviving fallow land, with a special emphasis on khazan lands. He said that the policy has been created after taking inputs from farmers, agriculturists and the youth.

“Our forefathers gave us the gift of the khazan land system. Post liberation, efforts to protect our fields and bring the younger generation into farming didn’t materialize. In the past, entire villages and families used to survive on this social economic activity. This system has collapsed because of the failed economic policies, misgovernance and corruption,” he said.

Parab said that the land mafia has entered politics. “They want our fields destroyed, they want to convert our fields. They have a lobby, they purchase farming land at cheap rates, convert the land, or construct illegal structures on it. Unfortunately, both the town and country planning and agriculture portfolios were under one minister. When our government is formed, both these portfolios will not be under one minister,” he said.

The party intends to focus on organic farming, set up agriculture, pisciculture and poultry-related training centres in all 12 talukas, bringing agriculture sector under Chief Minister’s Rozgar Yojana scheme for availing cheaper loans and deputing Krishi Sevaks at the village, municipality level to assist farmers,

Parab said that special emphasis will be on Goa’s unique produce like coconut, mango, betel nut, paddy and cashew as well as creating tender coconut plantations. Training will be provided to farmers on growing exotic vegetables, he said.

Irrigation systems will be improved, while cold storage and ripening chambers will be set up for produce as part of the policy.

Applications for availing subsidy, equipment, compensations for crop losses, etc, will be streamlined. A mobile app will be launched for this, as well as a 24×7 helpline number

“We will create an ecosystem of processing, branding and marketing for our farmers. Tourists should purchase our byproducts. We will create local market set ups in this regard. All political parties are offering freebies and indulging in caste-based politics. We are the only party to unveil 5 policies, and we will unveil more as the days progress. We have a vision to protect the livelihood of Goans,” Parab said.AGRICULTURE SECTOR
