GOVERNMENT OFFICERS IGNORING NEHRU’S CONTRIBUTION IN UNITING INDIA: BHIKE
PANAJI: Congress North Goa district president Vijay Bhike on Wednesday stated that government officers have been instructed not to mention in their public speeches the names of Mahatma Gandhi, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and other Congress leaders who have sacrificed their lives for the freedom struggle.
He also condemned Mapusa deputy collector Narayan Gad for not giving due credit to Jawaharlal Nehru in his Republic Day address at Hutatma Chowk, Mapusa. Bhike said that this is repeated every year at this same government held event.
Bhike pointed out that the present dispensation is attempting to ignore and distort india’s history.
Bhike said the Nehru’s role is also important in the freedom struggle.
“Former Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru had taken the initiative to unite the entire country. He spent 3600 days in jail. Yet he was not mentioned by the deputy collector in his speech. It appears the government is afraid to give credit to Mahatma Gandhi and Nehru for their contributions. Government servants should not indulge in such behaviour,” he said.
Bhike also said that he is grateful to the freedom fighters who have sacrificed for the country.
He also thanked the Covid warriors, including doctors, nurses, police, fire personnel, media (both print and electronic), NGOs and other social workers for their work during the pandemic.
