Mapusa:It was chaos on the last day of filing of nomination papers for the candidates contesting elections , as journalists were prevented from entering through the entrance of the government complex in Mapusa the police
Police in riot gear stormed into a rally of supporters by evicting hundreds of supporters and also journalists by using force and discriminated against journalists and got into a fight with some female journalists and also abused them.
The Bardez Press Association has strongly condemned the police action.
President of the Press Association, Tushar Tople, has warned the police not to display their khaki uniforms and also do dadagiri on the fourth pillar of democracy.
Also, the State Election Commission should immediately issue identity cards to the journalists through the election officials till the end of the election process” he said.He also demanded that a temporary press room be set up in Mapusa.
The police also abused aiz goa news reporter and told him to get lost from the spot and don’t come again to cover the news of nomination filing it was only after some reporters from other newspapers and channels came to his rescue the reporter was permitted to enter the venue.
