MAPUSA: North Goa District Congress Committee on Sunday party hit out at the BJP’s Mapusa candidate for his lack of vision for the constituency as well as for taking the people of the constituency for granted for the last so many years.
North Goa District President Vijay Bhike hit out at BJP leader and former Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis attacking him for his comments that the Congress is fielding proxy candidates.
“Wherever Fadnavis has gone and has been deputed by the party, the BJP has done badly and has failed. He is instead a panauti who has brought bad luck to the BJP. Today the BJP is reduced to a state where the party is even struggling to find candidates in constituencies where they have a sitting MLA. Fadnavis should focus on strengthening the organisation and spend the next few years when they will be in the opposition on trying to rebuild the BJP,” Bhike said.
“Our candidate Mapusa is receiving overwhelming support from across the constituency and the people he is meeting, and he is surely to be elected to represent the constituency and bring a fresh look to the constituency,” he added.
Addressing the media Mapusa block leader Shashank Narvekar hit out that Joshua and asked him to point to even a single project in Mapusa that the BJP can claim to have given the once vibrant city over the last twenty-five years.
“The MLA of Mapusa keeps harping about youth and how he will focus on the youth because he himself is young. But if you look around you in Mapusa and can point to even a single project in the city that has given jobs to the youth over the last five years, he should declare it to the people,” Narvekar said.
“Today a major problem faced by the people of the constituency as well as the youth is the complete absence of jobs — Both in the government and private sector. The town of Mapusa hasn’t got any projects over the last twenty-five years, never mind the kind of projects that can create jobs for the youth,” Narvekar said.
“The outgoing MLA has said that Mapusa has already seen a lot of development and that there is nothing more necessary the people of the constituency are asking for. If such is the vision being displayed by the candidate then you can imagine what he will actually do if he comes to power. Instead we urge the people of Mapusa to vote for a candidate who will bring development for the long-neglected constituency,” Narvekar said.
Mapusa youth president Nehal Shirgaonkar hit out at Joshua de Souza for taking the people of Mapusa for granted saying that it was this overconfidence that has cost the city so much in the form of lost time.
“The MLA said that the BJP’s tally starts from +1 because of the Mapusa constituency. The people of Mapusa and the youth of Mapusa are fed up of this attitude and now want someone who will work for them and secure their future,” he added.
The North Goa District Office also released the campaign t-shirt for candidate Sudhir Kandolkar on the occasion.
The Congress party also paid tribute to the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi who was shot dead today by Nathuram Godse on the occasion of his martyrdom day.
