Calangute: NGO Calangute Constituency forum has demanded with competent authorities to initiate action against the destruction of beach environment which has been undertaken by cutting beach vegetation in at vadi candolim beach are in violation of environmental protection act 1986
the NGO has filed a complaint with the member secretary of GCZMA, member secretary Goa bio diversity board, the deputy collector, secretary/ sarpanch of VP candolim and incharge of the calangute police station over the destruction cause to the environment .
president of calangute constituency forum Premanad Divkar said that it was brought to the notice by the local residents of Vadi candolim that that the owner of the said property has engaged some labourers in to cut beach vegetation in the within the CRZ area.
the residents of vadi candolim along with the members of the forum also informed the police station in charge by calling 112 and thereafter the police personnel visited the site and stopped the destruction in the first half of the day but it continued inspite of verbal directions from the authority” said Divkar
the NGO further pointed out that the high court also took suo moto cognizance in a similar case matter at calangute and also directed the competent authorities to look into such matters seriously in protection of beach biodiversity and its environment.
