ELECTED MLA’S MUST USE THEIR WISDOM TO ENSURE GOVERNMENT IS FORMED IN GOA IMMIDIATELY,
CONGRESS PARTY READY FOR ALL OPTIONS TO FACILITATE FORMATION OF NON-BJP GOVERNMENT – DIGAMBAR KAMAT
Panaji: Goa Assembly Election Results were clearly against the 10 year misrule of the BJP Government, However the split of votes facilitated the BJP to reach out to 20 seats which again is not the majority number in the 40 member Legislative Assembly of Goa.
The mandate of the people of Goa was clearly against the ruling dispensation which is visible from the 33.31% Vote Share of the BJP. This clears that the 66.69% Voters did not want the BJP Government to Govern the State of Goa.
On the day of the results, the BJP Leadership announced that they are going to form the Government with the support of Independents and other Political Parties.
Even after a weeks’ time since the results were declared, the BJP has failed to stake claim for the formation of the Government. The BJP Leadership is just buying time giving one excuse after the other and has completely failed to give a clear picture on the formation of the Government.
The Congress Party with utmost humility accepted the verdict of the People who elected our 11 MLA’s. We expected the BJP to move ahead and establish the Government in Goa.
It is most unfortunate that the BJP Government has till date not taken any steps to move ahead and form the Government in Goa.
The governance came to a halt after the Code of Conduct was announced in the month of January. No major works have taken place in last two months. The monsoon is fast approaching and lot of preparedness needs to be done to face the natural calamities like the Taukte Cyclone which caused severe disaster in the State of Goa. China has already raised alarm on Covid which may again hit the world. The Citizens need a Government in place to address to their grievances and resolve their problems.
It is loud and clear that “All is not Well” in BJP, and hence the People of Goa are deprived of a Government to Govern the State.
We condemn the dilly- dally tactics of the BJP which is depriving the People of Goa from having a full-fledged Government in place. The act of the BJP Government is a gross injustice on the People of Goa, who came out in large numbers to exercise their democratic right in expectation of a Government.
It appears that the claims made by the BJP of having 20 plus MLA’s on its side including MLA’s from Non- BJP Political Party and Independents is false, malicious and misleading.
Congress Party has always respected the sentiments, emotions and aspirations of the People and have always upheld the Constitution of India. We urge the BJP Leadership to make its position clear immediately or publicly admit its inability to form the Government.
Various MLA’s across the Party lines have approached the Congress Party with a request to take lead in formation of the Government.
We appeal to all the Non- BJP Elected MLA’s to use their wisdom and take steps to ensure that the People of Goa get a full-fledged and democratically elected government immediately.
All the Non- BJP MLA’s must keep in mind that the BJP has only 20 MLA’s which is just the half way mark and not a majority number.
We also appeal to the BJP MLA’s who believe in democracy to use their wisdom and ensure that People of Goa are not deprived of their right to have a full-fledged Government in place.
Congress Party is open for all options to ensure that a Non-BJP Government is formed in Goa which will actually upheld the verdict of 2022 Assembly Polls.

Adv. Carlos Almeida Ferreira:- Governor of Goa should intervene in this matter immediately. Caretaker Chief Minister cannot continue for weeks, he needs to prove his majority on the floor of the house. BJP is not having the majority number now.
