Mapusa town in Bardez taluka is the capital and central place. The city’s Deputy Collector as well as other offices are convenient for Bardez residents in all respects. However, local people’s representatives are plotting to take over these government offices in Mapusa, alleged Congress North Goa District President Vijay Bhike.
Porvorim MLA Rohan Khanute had tried to move important government offices in Porvorim, including the Mapusa case and the Deputy Collector, when he was the Revenue Minister three years ago, at the request of a few people in his constituency. His attempt to relocate these offices was not successful after the then government removed him from the ministry. But now he has been re-elected as MLA by the ruling party. Therefore, they have tried to move these offices to Porvorim,
“Bardez taluka is made up of one
municipality and 33 panchayats. From Asnora to Verem and from Siolim to Khorjuvem Britona , all the local bodies in the taluka find Mapusa a convenient place from all points of view”said bhike and added that is why people come to Mapusa for various daily activities. Accordingly, the government has set up all government offices in Mapusa.
People from any part of the taluka do not find Mapusa a difficult place to visit these offices. But MLA Khanute should not only think of the few people in his constituency but also realize that he is the people’s representative of Bardez taluka and consider the interests of the people of Bardez except his constituency.
Apart from Mapusa in other talukas, the other five MPs will not look back to try to take government offices to their constituencies” bhike further said
Without trying to relocate these offices to Porvorim , MLA Khaunte , through the government, decided to replace the existing government complex building in Mapusa with a multi-storey building.
