IMA GOA STATE organized a protest meeting on 1st April at the main gate of the Old GMC hospital, Panjim with over 100 doctors representing IMA GOA State and its branches, Association of Private Nursing Homes, Panaji Obstetrical & Gynaecological Society, Goa Dental Association, Radiology Association, Goa Homeopathy Association, Goa Ayurvedic Association, Goa Medical Representatives Association attending the meet. Dr. Rufino Monteiro, President of IMA GOA State, addressed the gathering condoling the untimely demise of a bright young gynecologist Dr. Archana Sharma from Dausa, Rajasthan, and condemned the illegal FIR filed against her under section 302 ( murder) without following due legal procedure. He also decried Mobocracy, Violence, Falsified Media trials & Demands of Extortion. Whilst appealing to the media to play their role in educating the public against such violence, he also appealed to the press not to sensationalize such matters but to do a thorough investigation and give the right side of the case. Dr. Suraj Prabhudesai of APNH, Dr. Shailesh Kamat of POGS, Dr. Sicletica Rebello of MOGS, Dr. Shekhar Salkar past ima state president Dr. Kedar Phadte Dr. Govind Kamat, and Nilesh Bagkar, President GMRA also spoke on the occasion.
A delegation comprising Dr. RUFINO Monteiro, Dr. Amol Tilve ( Hon Sec IMA GOA State), Dr. Dayanand Nayan ( Treasurer ), Dr. Shekhar Salkar, Dr. Govind Kamat, and Dr. Shailesh Kamat met the Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant and presented a memorandum and asked for the formation of a committee as required by the Goa Medicare Service Personnel & Medicare Service Institutions Act 2013 besides asking the police officers to act within the framework of Supreme Court guidelines. The Chief Minister was very receptive, deeply saddened at the demise of DR Archana and promptly gave instructions for the police officers and media to be sensitized on this issue as well as asked for necessary changes to make to the Goa Medicare Act by the Health Secretary and DGP Shri Jaspal Singh.
