Dayanand Mandrekar, a former MLA from siolim and a minister, had not only made efforts during his tenure to set up a grand fish project in the region, besides repairing the jetty several times, but also laid the foundation stone of the project to set up a fish plant in chapora, but the work on the project was stalled as soon as there was a change of power in the state. Vinod Palayenkar, who was a minister in the Goa Forward government as well as the BJP that came to power in the state after 2017 had promised to set up the pending fisheries project in Chapora on a war footing as soon as he took over as minister and also laid the foundation stone for the project for the second time, but after two-and-a-half years, as soon as he stepped down from the minister’s post, he too forgot about the project, said Balbhim Malvankar,

malvankar further said that he had decided to resign from the post of president of the local boat association on behalf of the Chapora boat association to the fishing department of the government regarding the repair of the concerned jetty, but malvankar, who held the post of president promising to provide benefits to the local fishermen of the government schemes, did not run away leaving his community members half way.
