On 1st May 2022, Hemophilia Society Goa, a non-profit organization in Goa working for a cause of supporting this bleeding disorder, celebrated World Hemophilia Day at Bicholim in the presence of Dr. Chandrakant Shetye (Ophthalmologist and M. L. A Bicholim Constituency) and Mr. Guruprasad Pawaskar (State Commissioner for Persons with disabilities). The event intended to create awareness about Hemophilia in Bicholim taluka.
The President of Hemophilia Society Goa Mr. Prasad Arolkar explained about Hemophilia and other bleeding disorders. He on behalf of the society requested Dr. Shetye to start a treatment center at Government Health Center for patients in his constituency and support their mission of creating awareness. Dr. Shetye assured that these requests shall be soon fulfilled. Mr. Guruprasad Pawaskar informed about disability rights and assured that there will be soon a streamlined setup and no child suffering from Hemophilia shall be left without a disability certificate.
An Occupational therapist Dr. Chetan Gaude demonstrated exercises to keep joints fit and healthy for the hemophiliacs and others.
During this event, Blood screening for all the women present was organized by Hemophilia Society Goa in association with Thyrocare. Scholarships were given to the hemophiliacs who answered their board exams this year at the hands of Mr. Guruprasad Pawaskar. Sanitary napkins were distributed for all the ladies at the hands of Mrs. Hema Betkekar (Head Nurse, Sanquelim PHC), Ice boxes were distributed for hemophiliacs in order to keep their factor injections cool incase of travelling at the hands of Mr. Narayan Betkekar (Ex Councillor, Bicholim Municipal Council).
A very important step taken by the society was to distribute cycles with safety gears to the patients at the hands of Dr. Shetye so that they can maintain their physical fitness through an enjoyable activity. This program was hosted by Samruddhi Ganpule.
