The villagers of Reis magos panchayat along with their MLA kedar naik have filed a petition before the Secretary of Goa State Election Commission (SEC) and the mamlatdar / and the electoral registration officer of Reis magos at Mapusa Bardez objecting to a memorandum the panchayat received earlier this month from the Directorate of Panchayats (DoP) about the recent delimitation exercise that was carried out ahead of the forthcoming village panchayat elections in the State.
in the petition submitted to the mamlatdar MLA Kedar naik pointed out that vide an oder dated 17/11/2021 it was notified that the the task of dividing each panchayat area into wards and reservation of seats in every panchayat area had to be taken up and for the said purpose the mamlatdar and Joint mamlatdar have to be appointed as electoral registration officers and the head clerks as assistant Electoral registration officers to carry out the said task and the said ERO’s/ AERO’s have been directed to divide the village panchayat area into wards. the villagers along with the MLA have threated to take further steps if the delimitation process has not been rectified the villagers along with Naik are aggrieved by the order of the Returning Office and hence had submitted the application so that the SEC and also the mamlatdar so that they could decide on the matter on the principles of equity and justice to all.
speaking to reporters MLA kedar naik pointed out that three family members from the same house were shifted to another ward as part of the delimitation process which has created a lot of confusion .
“upon verification of the above said memorandum, the village houses/wards which are shown in it, are completely mismanaged and not falling within the geographical boundaries of their respective wards,” said naik adding that this kind of delimitation exercise is not fair at all.
