Faldessai directs shipbuilding firm to dismantle illegal jetty at Gaudaulim
Panaji: Following strong opposition by Gaundalim locals against an illegal jetty in the village, Cumbarjua MLA Rajesh Faldessai conducted an inspection with government officials on Saturday.
A few days ago, a social media post had gone viral highlighting alleged landfilling of the Cumbarjua canal by Synergy Shipbuilders, where the company has constructed a structure to extend its dock.
The post had also mentioned that the jetty has been built in connivance with local panchayat authorities, and had sought the intervention of elected representatives.
Faldessai said that directions will be issued by the Department of Captain of Ports to the company to dismantle the structure.
“I have instructed them to remove the illegal construction within 8-10 days because it is six metres beyond the permissible limit. I have also spoken to the Captain of Ports James Braganza and apprised him of the situation. If the structure is not removed within this period, then it will be forcefully demolished,” he said.
