ALDONA MLA SEEKS PUBLIC APOLOGY FROM REPUBLIC
PANAJI: Aldona Congress MLA Adv Carlos Alvares Ferreira has demanded a public apology from Republic TV for falsely claiming that he cross-voted during the presidential election held on Monday.
The Congress Party has 11 legislators in the state. As per rules, political parties cannot issue whips to their MPs and MLAs for the presidential election as voting is done through a secret ballot.
“After casting my vote at the assembly complex, I was asked by reporters on my choice of candidate. Since voting is through a secret ballot, I refused to answer that question, and instead replied that I voted as per my conscience. I am not here for sale. I have not made any statement saying that I cross-voted. I am here to uphold democracy, and to save Goa for whatever we can,” he said.
The MLA said that he will take legal recourse if the news channel does not issue a public apology.
“Republic TV has claimed that I have cross-voted in the presidential elections. I demand a public apology by the channel for putting words in my mouth, for making false insinuations in my name, and trying to tarnish my fair name and image. I am issuing a note to Republic TV demanding an apology, and if they do not, then legal action will surely follow,”
