Shirodkar stresses for agriculture activities in State

Stressing upon growth of agricultural activities in the State, Minister for Water Resources Shri. Subhash Shirodkar called on people in Dharbandora taluka to get indulged in agriculture in larger scale and contribute to economic growth in its true sense.

He was speaking at a programme ‘Catch the Rain’ organised by Water Resources Department towards rain water harvesting at Bondumal, Mollem, on Friday .

Shirodkar appealed to the young generation to involve in agriculture and form new farmers society to avail benefits of government schemes and subsidies for growing crops. Agriculture has huge potential to extend financial stability and for sustainable living. New generation should change their mind set and opt for farming instead of jobs, he added.

MLA, Sanvordem Dr. Ganesh Gaonkar appealed people to extend support in rain water harvesting projects initiated by the Government and also initiate measures to catch rain water thereby making the taluka water sufficient.

Minister also felicitated local farmers on the occasion.

Bondumal Mollem sarpanch Smt. Rukmini Gaonkar, zilla panchayat member Smt. Sudha Gaonkar and others were present on the occasion.

Shri. Shirodkar today visited Dharbandora taluka under the ‘Mantri Aplya Dari ‘ initiative wherein he gave a patient ear to all the grievances raised by local Sarpanchas, panch members and others pertaining to Water Resources and other Departments.

Minister stressed for sheer dedication of Government Officers and local elected representatives to resolve issues pertaining to irrigation and water supply in Dharbandora taluka there by achieving goal of no pendency of grievances.

MLA, Savordem Dr. Ganesh Gaonkar, Chief Engineer, Water Resources Shri. Pramod Badami, Zilla Panchayat South Goa Chairman Smt. Suvarna Tendulkar, Dy. Collector Shri. Nilesh Dhaimodkar abd others were present on the occasion.

Speaking at interaction programme with the public, Minister announced that the Water Resources Department will release Water in canals by November 15, 2022 after requisite repairs of the canals which would facilitate the farmers to resume cultivation in time. He also informed that at the first instance government will take up projects of irrigation and water supply costing Rupees five crores in Dharbandora taluka.

Shri. Shirodkar stated that, Government Officers play significant role in execution of each government projects and scheme. They need to have positive approach towards timely completion of the work. The prompt actions by government officers would definitely contribute to the social and economic growth of the region, he added.

Shri. Shirodkar directed the WRD officers to undertake study regarding desilting of rivers, nallhas and bandharas and submit the report by November 1, 2022 to undertake work of desilting as soon as possible.

Minister was informed about alleged release of muddy water in the river tributaries in Dharbandora. Shri. Shirodkar directed concerned Mamlatdar, WRD officers to carry out surprise inspection and submit the report identifying the route cause of the problem.

Sarpanch of Dharbandora, Collem, Kalay and others submitted representation pertaining to various demands to the Minister.

During his day long tour, Minister Shri. Shirodkar inspected proposed sites for small dam for irrigation (minor irrigation tank) at Tatodi and Cajumol. Minister informed that preliminary survey will be conducted by WRD to work out catchment area, submerged area, impact on local habitat and estimated cost for the both projects.
