Members of Calangute constituency forum and local villagers gathered at the site on receipt of information and stopped illegal cutting of beach vegetation in a property near Wishpering palm Resort bearing survey no 120/1 and at Bamonvaddo Candolim.
Around 8 to 10 labourers were engaged in cutting the beach vegetation thus destroying the beach environment to make a way for the development activities. On the tip of locals CCF immediately moved to the site alongwith some villagers and the ward member to stop the destruction by chasing away the labourers.
“This activity is in violation of Environment Protection Act 1986 and it looks that the authorities are turning blind eye to such activities and shown incompetency to save beach environment. This is the forth incident within the coastal area of Candolim during past two month” Said president Of the CCF Premanad Divkar
CCF immediately informed the Secretary of Village Panchayat Candolim and asked him to initiate immediate action against the developer as it falls within 200 mtrs from CRZ.
Local residents have also filed complaint against the violators and the copy is marked to CCF for necessary follow up.
there are several complainants filed by CCF against the destruction of beach vegetation and Sand dunes in Candolim to the competent authorities but they have failed miserably to initiate action against the violators and protect the beach environment of the Village even though several orders have benn passed by Hon. National Green Tribunal in protection of beach environment” said Divkar
CCF has request the competent authorities to act seriously in protection of beach environment and mantain NDZ areas from 0 to 200 from further destruction.
