Goa ushers in Diwali festivities with burning of effigies of the Demon Narakasur
Humongous effigies of Demon Narakasur were consigned to flames during the wee hours of Monday as the state ushered in Diwali celebrations
Several hundred effigies of Narakasur, which were prepared ahead of Diwali festivities, were burnt during the wee hour, representing victory of good over evil.
The cities like Mapusa Panaji saw Narakasur Vadh competitions which continued entire night, till wee hours with more than 20 groups participating in each of the event. The effigies were ferried from the respective villages to the competition spot on trucks. A chariot for Lord Krishna also accompanies each of the effigy.
During the competition, the organizers to demonstrated how Krishna and his wife Satyabhama killed Narakasur in a battle.
