Finance dept nod awaited for minimum support price hike: Ferreira
PANAJI: Aldona MLA Adv Carlos Alvares Ferreira has said that the finance department clearance is awaited on the hike of minimum support price for farmers.
“I spoke to the director of agriculture Neville Alphonso to find out the status on this matter. He has informed me that the file had been sent twice to the finance department as the file returned with certain objections raised by the department. The file has now been sent for the third time to the finance department after giving clarifications, and the clearance is awaited. I don’t know whether the government will hike the minimum support price retrospectively, and I hope that the government gives the benefit for this season,” he said..
Ferreira also hit out at certain persons who had levelled false accusations of not addressing the Quitla farmers’ problems.
“This is mere politics over the farmers’ issue, and not genuine concern. The former MLA has no role in this. In fact, the person levelling false accusations has never informed me. He went ahead and convened a meeting of the farmers without intimating me, and then falsely stated that I didn’t turn up. Another woman had contacted my son over the issue the previous day, and I later met the farmers on Friday,” he said
