Need to create awareness on diabetes, cancer: Aldona MLA
Panaji: With many people, including youngsters, being detected with diabetes as well as cancer, there is a need to create awareness on these diseases among citizens, said Aldona MLA Adv Carlos Alvares Ferreira
He was speaking after flagging off a walkathon by the students of St Thomas Higher Secondary School, Aldona on Saturday morning.
The walkathon ‘Educate to Protect Tomorrow’ was organised by Aldona Primary Health Centre to observe World Diabetes Day and National Cancer Awareness Day.
Health Officer of Aldona Primary Health Centre Dr Roshan Nazareth and the entire team as well as teachers were present.
“This special drive was held to raise awareness on diabetes and cancer. Even youngsters are detected with diabetes, while many people suffering from cancer too. We need to change our food habits to live a healthy lifestyle,” he said.
“People need to see such drives. Many a times, we approach the doctor or hospital when the ailment is at an advanced stage. At times, the patient also dies. This is a very good move to organise the drive, and I am very grateful,”
