In a bid to address the power problems in calangute constituency the electricity department commissioned a new 33/ 11 kv Gas insulated sub-station along with other associated equipment worth rs 24, core 56 lakh on Tuesday
The project was inaugurated by power minister Sudhin Dhavlikar in the presence of sarpanch of calangute Joseph sequeira calangute , MLA Michael lobo, deputy sarpanch Geeta parab chief engineer Stephen fernandes and others. The project is undertaken under IDPS scheme initiated by the government of India funded by the central government and state Government. This land for this calangute substation is acquired by the government of Goa from the land owner Allen Pinto and 2000 sq meters of land for survey number 40/2 for an amount of rs 2,49,54,233 which was acquired for this project. The land development and land levelling was done including the compound wall etc by the contactor M/s sons thivim. This sub- station of 33/11 KV 2 x 20 MVA gas sub-station has an inbuilt current transformer, voltage transformer and circuit breaker . the 33 KV double circuit underground #C x 400 cable is alid to incoming 33 kv supply to GIS substation for the length of 650 mts
“the frequent power failures in Saligao and coastal areas could soon be a thing of the past and added that after the commissioning of this sub station the calangute area will have minimum power interruptions and reliable power supply which were occurring due to large residential projects and hotels.” said Dhavlikar
“ the feeder length is very short as compared to existing feeders due to which the voltage will improve thereby solving the low voltage problem faced by the public” said calangute MLA Michael lobo and thanked the owner of the land for providing the land free of cost for erecting the sub station
The new GIS sub-station will feed the entire calangute area by bifurcating the existing load from Saligao Candolim and Nagoa sub station” lobo further said
Calangute sarpanch Joseph sequeira also thanked the electricity department for going ahead with the work of sub-station and said that this sub-station will help in solving the problem of constant power supply failure and the calangute constituency will get uninterrupted power supply
