The first ever Kite festival held on Sunday saw the skies above the calangute beach come alive with a variety of kites the first ever kite festival had participants from all over Goa .
To encourage little ones, nearly 5,000 plus kites were freely distributed by the organisers among school children who attended the festival. The festival, was replete with a brilliant display of several different kinds of kites, including multi-strings, inflatables, high-winds and low-winds, among others.
“ This is the first ever kite festival here and it’s wonderful to see such enthusiasm of the various participants especially the children at this festival and we decided to have such kind of a festival to help the children improve the flying skills because the pandemic induced lockdown had made the children play games their smart phones and no time to come out and spend their leisure time” said deputy sarpanch of Calangute VP Geeta Parab .
“ this festival brought me memories of my childhood wherein I had a chance to fly a kite said a local from calangute Mahey SImepurushkar who designed a beautiful kite.
“We are sure that Goa will play the perfect host and participants will return for another successful edition next year,” the event coordinator, said Panch member of calangute VP sawpnesh Vaigankar.
“I am thankful to the panchayat for the this festival as such kind of a festival will promote kite flying and encourage youngsters to come out and fly their kites as two years of the COVID -19 pandemic induce lockdown had made the children glued to their smart phones” said Fr. Peter Ferandes a priest from saint alex chuch calangute participating with the youth in the festival .
