Pomburpa crematorium road work begins
Aldona: Fulfilling a long pending demand of the locals, Aldona MLA Adv Carlos Alvares Ferreira on Saturday inaugurated the pre-mixing works of the approach road leading to the crematorium.
The work of the 840 metres stretch is being taken up at a cost of Rs 47.69 lakhs.
“We have inaugurated the road works near the Pomburpa spring and crematorium. The stretch was in a dilapidated condition. After completing the cross drain, we have now started the pre-mixing works. The hot-mixing works can commence only after completing this initial work. It was a long standing demand of the people. Locals had pointed out the problem to me prior to the assembly election, and even after the polls. I visited the site subsequently. The hot-mixing machine will be able to climb this slope only after pre-mixing works are completed,” he said.
Emphasising on the need to develop the road, he said, “Our final resting place must be good. There also needs to be a good crematorium, for which I will ensure something good is done here. The approach road was in a dilapidated condition. We must never forget and respect those who have been with us in our lifetime, those who have gone to eternal bliss. This is the smallest thing we can do to make sure they get a restful life after death,” he said.
The MLA also thanked the government for approving various projects in Aldona constituency.
“I am happy that many of the pending files are being cleared by the government. The government is helping us immensely. I thank the chief minister and PWD minister Nilesh Cabral who is energetic and in the forefront of helping everyone. I thank AE Walke as well as engineers and chief engineer for their assistance. I wish that we can continue with this pace of work. We will see a lot of development in our constituency, not only in Pomburpa. Even neglected areas like Ecoxim will be taken up and we will show that work can be taken up. We will do the best for our constituency and for Goa,” he said.
Pomburpa-Olaulim sarpanch Leopoldina Noronha said that the local MLA is assisting the villagers immensely and thanked him for taking up this long pending demand of the people.
Locals present at the function said that the MLA has stuck to his assurance to take up the work of repairing the road. “We have seen many assurances given in the past. The road work was stuck due to some reasons. We used to face a lot of hardship during the monsoon. Many past MLAs could not deliver on this. But our present MLA has taken up this work. I urge him to also take up the works of the crematorium as well,” they said.
