Candolim veterans defeated Mitra 2-0 to emerge winners of the 1st All Goa Agnel (Sulcar) Memorial Cup (Veterans Football Tournament organised by Calangute Veterans held at poriat ground calangute on Monday .
Both the teams started with a cautious approach in the first half and created a lot of chances. Mitra players kept good possession of the ball and the strikers mad deep runs into the candolim defence but a blunder by a Candolim defender created a chance from mitra to get a penalty after one of their strikers was tripped in the penalty box and they got a penalty but the mitra striker failed to score after a superb save by the candolim goal keeper. The missed goal sparked the match to life as Candolim veterans got a good boost and Candolim had their plans and they waited patiently to strike and they got first goal through their striker Vishant pednekar giving them a 1 goal lead and the first half ended with Candolim vetrans leading
In the second half it was full dominance by candolim veterans as their strikers found some great form and they tried make deep runs into the resilient defence of the mitra and their star striker Caetano Fernandes missed many chances due to some best goal keeping by the mitra goal keeper Gaberial Ferandes who made some brilliant saves. the missed chances boosted the morale of the players and finally they managed to score the second goal through Shankar Playekar eventually winning the game Ramesh from Candolim vetrans.
