Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte on Saturday inaugurated Dona Paula jetty which is developed under central government’s Swadesh Darshan scheme.

“Today the DonaPaula jetty has been inaugurated. This jetty has been developed under the central government’s Swadesh Darshan Scheme,” said Khaunte

He further said that charges of Rs 50 will be applicable for adult tourists while Rs 25 to be applicable for tourists from the age of 10 to 18.

“Entry is free for locals. We want to promote responsible and sustainable tourism,’ he added

The jetty has been reconstructed by the tourism department and will have facilities for tourists which were missing at the old jetty.

It may be recalled that the jetty has been under renovation for several years which has prevented visitors from enjoying the landmark tourist site.

The jetty was shut back in November 2018 by an order of the North Goa Collector, citing safety issues.

The re-development work however was launched only in February 2021 initially due to the policy paralysis attributed to then ailing chief minister the late Manohar Parrikar, and later over a choice of the agency that will take up the project.

Eventually, the work was carried out under the aegis of the Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC).
