The Candolim gram sabha held on Sunday vehemently opposed commercial activities in Heritage Aguada jail museum, tourist helicopter ride at Aguada and widening of bandh at Candolim.
Earlier the gram sabha commenced with the secretary reading out the minutes of the previous gram sabha the gram sabha which was scheduled to start on time was adjourned for nearly ha;lf hour due to lack of quorum
Damien tellis raised the issue of the illegal business along the bandh demanded to know as to why the panchayat is evading them and not taking the locals into confidence
Damien urged the panchayat to initiate action against the unauthorized businesses along the bandh sarpanch informed that the panchayat has already undertaken inspection of the same and further necessary action would be initiated.
Another issue raised at the gram sabha was about helicopter rides at aguada the locas informed that the safety of the world heritage monuments is being compromised by allowing the helicopter riders over them.
“If any mishap occurs due to the helicopter ride the locals will be put into a lot of inconvenience and are we e going to wait for this to happen said tellis
Responding on the issue sarpanch fermino Ferandes said that the panchayat would write to the GTDC on the concerns raised by the locals.
Another issue raised at the gram sabha was about the dumping of garbage local Lourenceo silveria stated that the garbage was creating a lot of problems and urged the sarpanch to take action against the same sarpanch said that action would be taken
Another issue raised at the gram sabha was about the illegal functioning of casinos and the locals demanded to know whether panchayat has given permission sarpanch said that no permission was given and the locals demanded to take action agains the functioning of casinos
