Aggrieved water sports owners from Goa have opposed the proposal of setting up of a water sports counter under GEL stating that such a system will not be beneficial to them
A meeting of all Goa water sports owners was held at the office of the calangute MLA Michael lobo the meeting was also attended by BJP state president Sadanad shet Tanavde at Calangute
it may be recalled that the Tourism minister Rohan Khaunte had recently paid a surprise visit to Calangute and Vagator beaches where he had interacted with some tourists and had also directed authorities to crack down on illegalities.
Speaking at the meeting a water sports operator from Goa said they have invested in water sports business ever since it was started and now the Goa Electronics Limited (GEL) has asked us to setup a watersports counter after registering all the private water sports operators and this is not proper the water sports operators told the MLA to support them by making a representation to the government and Tourism Department
Calangute MLA Michael lobo said the he would “definitely support them and would speak to the tourism minister about it .” said lobo
Noticing that some water sports operators were fleecing tourists and not following the queue system, tourism minister Rohan Khaunte had ordered officials to shut down all private watersports counters and to set up a government-backed counter to streamline the activities
