Calangute MLA Michael lobo has said that there should be an amendment to stop commercial structures comng up in a radius of from 50 mts close to religious institutions such as temples churches and mosque. lobo said that he will write a letter to the chief minister and TCP minister and I will raise issue in Upcoming Assembly session and bring amendment.
Lobo was speaking at a protest meeting organized by The parishioners of Khobra Vaddo calangute against a hotel project coming in close vicinity of the church . it may be recalled that Both The committees of Our Lady of Piety Chapel and Confrairia Nossa senor de capel da Piedade at cobravaddo calangute along with the locals had made a strong appeal for withdrawal of the approval given to Mr Philip Soares to construct a hotel with swimming pool. the meeting was attended by a large number of parishioners.it may be recalled that the town and country planning had also granted permission to carry out the development in respect of the property by following all the terms and conditions
“We will write to the chief minister and the TCP minister to bring about this amendment to the TCP act as commercial activities cannot come up next to religious institutions in a radius of 50mts” said lobo
