inspection of 161 shacks carried out by Mamlatdars along calangute Candolim beach stretches

Following the order from Hon’ble High Court of Bombay, District Magistrate North along with ten teams headed by Mamlatdars and Joint Mamlatdars held an inspection of the 161 shacks on Calangute -Candolim beach Stretch that have been issues closure notices by Goa State Pollution control Board.
the High Court in its order had ordered North Goa Collector to ensure implementation of the closure orders issued by GSPCB. The High Court had also further directed GSPCB and North Goa Collector to file compliance report by 5 April.
While hearing of a Public Interest Litigation before the High Court , Goa State Pollution Control Board submitted that there are total 167 operational shacks licenced by Tourism Department on Candolim-Calangute stretch. But, only 6 shacks had valid ‘Consent to Operate’, hence it has issued closure order to such 161 shacks operating illegally.
