Easter one of the most significant festival commemorating the resurrection of lord Jesus from the dead was celebrated with great pomp and religious fervour,on Sunday with a large number of , devotees taking part in mass and prayer sessions in churches across the state .
Easter celebrations were held with great vigour and faith by the devotees in with also the Easter Vigils held outside the church. As mentioned in the Bible and according to religious scholars lord Jesus Christ was crucified on the day of Good Friday and buried in a grave after his last supper which is commemorated as Maundy Thursday. However, on the third day when his disciples visited his grave, they found that the grave was empty.
Eater basically starts with the Easter vigil ceremony and begins with blessings of fire and light. Lord Jesus is the light of the world,and it is believed that he takes away all the darkness, namely sin and other evils. The lights are put off and the devotees light a candle and enter the Church and once they are inside the church, they turn them on . The significance is that Lord Jesus is the light of the world. After this, the priest blesses the Holy Water. It symbolises new life as Jesus himself had said that he is the ‘living water’”

Traditions like church visits, baking hot cross buns and decorating Easter eggs are symbolic of Christ’s death on the cross and resurrection from the tomb according to religious scholars easter always falls on the first Sunday after the first full moon following the spring equinox.
