Calangute MLA Michael lobo has said that there is a need to have a parking lot at the entrance of calangute to park heavy vehicles coming from outside the state and urged the panchayat to immediately identify the land for this purpose.
Lobo was speaking to reporters after inaugurating the works of the hot mixing of road stretch from Dolphin circle up to Saint Anthony Chapel Calangute besides lobo also present were deputy sarpanch Geeta Parab, panch member savio Gonsalves ans others The road stretch was in a dilapidated condition making it difficult for the smooth flow of the vehicles and the people were demanding the works had to be undertaken on priority as the road was in a dilapidated condition making it difficult especially for two wheeler riders to travel on the stretch. The PWD had dug up the road due to which deep craters were formed on the stretch and after many approvals a double coat hotmixing was approved. The road will now be widened at upto 3meters on both the sides after the panchayat obtained all the administrative approvals.
“If the panchayat can identify the land for parking of outstation vehicles calangute can be Free from air Pollution as many vehicles enter calangute creating a lot of pollution” said lobo and added that there is a major flow of traffic on this arterial stretch of the road leading towards the beach especially on Friday and Saturday with a lot of tourists coming towards the beach side” said lobo
“These out station vehicles can be kept at that spot and the panchayat can provide the drivers with toilet facilities and the guest can be picked up from that spot and they can be taken back to their respective hotels as vehicles have increased ten folds the panchayat should see to it that the outstation vehicles do not enter calangute especially on Friday Saturday Sunday” said lobo
Deputy sarpanch Geeta Parab also expressed her gratitude to the MLA for getting the works approved for the benefit of the people as it the people were demanding that the works had to be undertaken on priority
