Goa Shiv Sena state chief Jitesh Kamat handed over the badminton court at Cunchelim Mapusa to youths after its restoration at his own expense. The court was in dilapidated condition for more than two decades. There were no posts to tie a net and the flooring was completely damaged. Kamat installed new net posts and repaired the court there. On Saturday 8th April, Veteran football player Napoleon DaCosta of Cunchelim inaugurated the Court by giving badminton kit to the young players. Kamat said that there is an indoor badminton court in Pedem Stadium, but it’s overcrowded , so he realised that there was a need to repair the neglected ground here. Since the court at Peddem are somewhat professional, those who play the game only as a hobby or for fun prefer to play on such open courts. Apart from this, expressing the opinion that even some parents are not interested in sending their children to play by spending money, Kamat urged the youth of Mapusa to use the said court. He assured the youths present that he would make efforts to install flood lights as per the pending demand of the locals. Football coach Naresh Virnodkar, Navnath Korgaonkar, Amit Bandekar, Johnny D’Souza, Vijay Ghanekar, Sadiq Syed, Sameer, Fikru and others were present.
