Faldessai inaugurates repair works on Carambolim khazan bund
Panaji: Water resources minister Subhash Shirodkar along with Cumbarjua MLA Rajesh Faldessai on Wednesday laid the foundation stone for the work to improve the existing khazan bund of Tallem Sawat Association at Carambolim, Tiswadi taluka.
The MLA stated that he will take up similar works across the constituency, and the WRD minister has assured Faldessai of his full support in executing these works that need to be carried out on priority.
The estimated cost of the project at Carambolim is Rs 93.83 lakhs.
The repair works will be taken up by M/s D K Bhomkar, Bhoma, Ponda.
The total length of the nullah is 580 metres, and the scope of the work includes increasing the bund height with moorum as well as construction of a protection wall along the bund with laterite boulder masonry and cement concrete of height 1.8 metres.
The work is expected to commence on 15 April and is likely to be completed by 12 December.
Following his election as Cumbarjua MLA last year, Faldessai had said that bunds and sluice gates requiring repairs in khazan land in the villages of St Estevam, Divar, and Cumbarjua will be taken up on priority.
Faldessai had also stated that restoration and rejuvenation of all water bodies in the constituency area will be taken up.
The MLA had promised to revive agriculture in fertile lands, and also protect vulnerable areas from rising water levels.
Following an inspection of the damaged sluice gates at Divar and Carambolim last year in May, the MLA had assured locals that breaches in bunds will be repaired and submerged fields will be drained.
The repairs will be initiated through the water resources department, the MLA had stated.
