The Crime Branch has arrested Advocate Tarak Arolkar in connection with the fake call centre operating from his premises in Colvale.
As per information, Arolkar was arrested last night on charges of abetting the crime, as CB believes it could not have taken place without his knowledge.
Arolkar was arrested u/s 419,420 r/w 120-B IPC & 66-C & 66-D of the IT Act.
33 persons were arrested for operating a fake call centre from premises in Colvale.
The crime branch raided premises in Colvale and arrested the accused, who hailed from Gujarat, Maharashtra, Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Nagaland.
The accused allegedly posed as the customer service staff of a popular e-commerce portal and also catered to customers from the US, he said.
The accused would note down information about customers, including their personal and bank details, and using these, they would induce the customers to make some payments to get issues with their purchases resolved.
The police had also seized 26 computers with accessories and a router during the raid.
