With rise of Traffic due Mopa International Airport and Expansion of road from mapusa to Parra, Nagao has proven to be a major bottleneck the Public Works Department (PWD) on Wednesday started work on the widening of Nagao road upto Nagoa Dream Circle. the works have bee taken up at a cost of rs 3.80 cr. C alangute MLA Michael lobo carried out the inspection of the work
A large number of trees and the compound walls of the people will be demolished to facilitate the widening work. There has been a strong-felt need for widening of roads along this stretch of the road due to the rising tourist traffic coming from Mopa airport which has to cross the village which is located in between the two tourist hubs of Calangute and Anjuna.
The narrow roads in Arpora were the cause of constant traffic jams causing bottlenecks on the busy coastal tourism road from Calangute to Anjuna. The road which is being widened from the Nagoa grande hotel is the only approach road for motorists driving down from Mapusa Panaji for the Saturday night markets and other places in the Anjuna coastal belt. The PWD has taken up the works at an estimated cost of rs 3 crore 80 lakhs and the contractor has started the works
“we have requested PWD minister Nilesh cabral that there was a need to remove most of the bottlenecks as the traffic will continue to be on the rise and with the number of flights coming more traffic will increase and the widening works will greatly help the general public as it will help in decreasing the number of road accidents” said lobo
All the compound walls will be taken back and they will be re-constructed and we will rebuild it for the people” lobo further said
