Aldona MLA unveils 3-day Carlos Ferreira Cup
Aldona: Aldona MLA Adv Carlos Alvares Ferreira on Friday inaugurated the first 3-day Carlos Ferreira Cup, cricket tournament, from May 5 to 7, at Gawar ground, Aldona.
The tournament, organised by Ferreira along with Aldona Constituency Youth, has 25 participating teams with 44 events running across 3 days.
The winning team will be awarded Rs 50,000, while the runners up will get Rs 30,000, besides other individual prizes.
“The biggest task is organising such a tournament. We didn’t have any auction as players would have gone to other teams. This would have broken up teams. I wanted teams to be nurtured from the grassroots, playing and performing. I want each team to perform in every tournament. Hence, we decided to have a tournament sticking to the basics that were prevalent prior to the practice of auctions I want every team to grow and improve their technique. Be it cricket or any other sport, I Wil always be there,” Ferreira said.
For the first time, the tournament is being held day and night, Ferreira said.
“It will be spectacular to come and watch these young budding players. Some of these players today may end up players for the National team, IPL or even abroad,” he added.
