The Calangute panchayat at it’s gram sabha held on Sunday took a resolution to file an FIR against the concerned EE for not obtaining the necessary permissions to operate the Sewerage treatment plant at Baga Calangute .
The gram sabha which saw a very less turnout of people started with the locals raising civic issues plaguing the village and urged the local body to find a solution to the problem.
a local Cotilda Braganza raised the issue about the blatant land filling happening at fondiyar Calangute and demanded to know the action taken by the sarpanch, Joseph Siqueira sarpanch said that action would be initiated and a proper assessment would be done about the issue. Locals also demanded that proper road signages be put up at prominent locations in the village so as to prevent accidents, sarpanch agreed of putting up the signages .another local raised the issue of e- waste which was not collected from the internal areas as a result of which people dumped their waste on the main road sarpanch said that waste collection will be done on round-the-clock and place will be identified near the cattle pound for the same.
the issue of the discharge of sewerage in the baga river witnessed heated discussions with the villagers demanding to know the further stand of the panchayat in this issue sarpanch said that they will write to the chief minister and the minister for environment , chief secretary and the collector to file an FIR against the EE to take action against him. on the issue the dance bars sarpanch said that the panchayat has revoked licenses to the dance bars and clubs and they will not be allowed to function in the village
another local Kundan kerkar raised the issue of the proliferation of the illegal gaddas selling ice cream and also massage parlours on the road side as they were doing illegal business. Sarpanch assured of taking action and revoking the license The gram sabha went on smoothly without any untoward incidents
