First Millet, Mango and Music Fest to be held at Goa college of Agriculture.

The first ever Mudassachem fest celebrating the millets, mango and music fest will be held on Sunday, 14th May, 2023 from 11am to 3pm. The festival is curated by Festakar Marius Fernandes and Gwendolyn De Ornelas and organised by the Goa College of Agriculture, Ela, Old Goa. Millet, once a staple diet of traditional Indian cooking is been making a slow comeback in India and across the globe. To keep this momentum going, The United Nations has declared 2023 as The International Year of this crop, supported by India and the Government of Goa. This first and unique event will be a zero waste fest, revival of our foods and Inclusive with a celebration of Goan culture, knowledge, economic empowerment of communities, music, revival of food and recipes and Inclusion of all communities. Besides millets, there will be a celebration of mangoes of Goa. There will be a variety of mangoes for sale including grafted mangoes. The fest will largely focus on millets and mangoes and a display of different varieties and related information. At 11am there will be a mango orchard walk, goan food stalls, grafting workshops and Konkani cultural programmes with Ghumots, kottieos and guitars. Festakar Marius Fernandes says that it is a great opportunity for the young students of the agricultural college to promote millets, mangoes and other farming related activities and showcase their farming skills. Principal of Goa College of Agriculture Mr Suresh Kunkaikar added that the essence of the festival is to promote the nutritional and ecological value, and for the new generation to appreciate millets and mangoes in our diets.
