Illegal Hill Cutting in Paliem Village, Bardez Goa Authorities  conduct site inspection into the matter

A joint site inspection was conducted by the TCP (Town and Country Planning) department officials, on  Wednesday  with regards to illegal hill cutting going on in Paliem village . The inspecting team comprised of Aldona MLA Carlos Ferreira, local residents, and the Flying Squad . The inspection revealed the ongoing construction work on non-cultivable land, involving the cutting of the hill at the North-Eastern corner that was going on in sy.no 6/3 in the village of Paliem, near Sateri Temple, Bardez, Goa.

The hill cutting was observed to have a significant impact, with a vertical drop measuring an average height of 3.50 meters, a length of 10.00 meters, and a width of 8.00 meters. Shockingly, it was found that the necessary permission under section 17-A of the TCP Act of 1974 was not displayed on-site, nor were any permissions made available during the inspection. It should be noted that section 17-A of the Town and Country Planning Act, 1974, is applicable to this matter.

The unauthorized construction activity has raised serious concerns among the local community and environmental activists. The hasty removal of hills without the required permissions can lead to severe environmental consequences, including soil erosion, degradation of natural habitats, and disruption of the ecological balance.

Residents in the vicinity and members of the local community have expressed their dismay over the illegal hill cutting, as it not only poses environmental threats but also disregards the principles of sustainable development and the preservation of natural resources. The presence of a permission board indicating the construction of Bungalow/Villas further raises questions about the transparency and legality of the project.

The authorities are now taking necessary actions to address this issue promptly. The TCP department and other concerned agencies are investigating the matter thoroughly to determine the responsible parties and enforce appropriate legal measures. Strict action will be taken against those found guilty of violating the environmental regulations and carrying out unauthorized construction activities.

Efforts are being made to raise awareness among the public regarding the importance of preserving natural resources and abiding by the regulations governing land development. It is crucial for individuals, developers, and communities to understand their responsibility towards the environment and work together to maintain the ecological balance for future generations.

The incident of illegal hill cutting in Paliem village serves as a reminder of the need for stringent enforcement of environmental regulations and the vigilance of both authorities and citizens in protecting our fragile ecosystems. The preservation of our natural heritage should be a collective effort, and any unauthorized activities that endanger it must be dealt with swiftly and firmly.
