The opposition created a ruckus in the legislative assembley on Tuesday demanding a detail discussion on the issue of the collapse of the open auditorium of under renovation Kala Academy building collapsed on the intervening night of Sunday-Monday
The opposition led by Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao moved a adjournment motion demanding suspension of Question Hour and to also discuss the urgent matter regarding collapse of Kala Academy.
Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar did not allow the adjournment motion and requested opposition to move a Calling Attention motion. The request qas declined by opposition MLAs who rushed to the well of the House with playcards and shouting slogans.
The Chief Minister Pramod Sawant told House that government is ready for discussion but should be only after Question Hour.
With opposition MLAs in no mood to listen to the request, the Speaker adjourned the House owing to the ruckus.
Alemao said that the Kala Academy was designed by legendary architect Charles Correa, where famous national and international artistes have performed.
The vociferous opposition led by Yuri alemao cornered the government over the issue and termed the monument as a monument of corruption.
“The renovation work of the Kala Academy was given to a contractor without floating a tender, which is against the CPWD manual,” Alemao said.
The opposition said that the BJP government indulged in corruption over the renovation work as a result of which the open auditorium collapsed and demand a judicial inquiry into this matter. Alemao also held Sawant and Gaude responsible for the mess.
“ the whole Cabinet is responsible, as it approved the renovation without floating a tender. The work was assigned to a party to indulge in corruption and no department is ready to give a clarification about this mess now,” Alemao said.
