In an effort to raise awareness on the rise of human trafficking cases in Goa, Mukti Kiran in
collaboration with Mog Foundation, is organising a debate on the topic: “Who is responsible to control the issue of anti-human trafficking? Police along with the civil society or the police themselves?”
The debate will be conducted on 25 August, 2023, from 9 am onwards at the Multipurpose Hall, Sanskruti Bhavan, Directorate of Art and Culture, Patto, Panaji. The debate has received an overwhelming response from 25 Higher Secondary Schools of North Goa who have registered themselves for the Debate Competition as well as the poster competition.
Stating that human trafficking is a significant crime, Roshan Mathias, Director, Mog Foundation stated
that, “Mog Foundation will do all it can to ensure that people are made aware of this heinous crime. We are working towards enforcing necessary action and measures by the authorities to reduce and eradicate this crime entirely in Goa. Goa is a tourism state, and is well respected. Such crimes occurring in Goa are not acceptable. We extend our invitation to all the higher secondary schools of North Goa to actively participate in this debate. People can also watch the debate live on that day.”
He also said that one of the objectives of Mog Foundation is to create awareness, especially on human rights. “We have collaborated with Mukti Kiran who have dedicated themselves towards the mission of anti-human trafficking in Goa. We at Mog Foundation support this entire cause,” he said.
President of Mukti Kiran said, Sister Myra Da Costa, “In Goa, girls are trafficked from outside Goa and brought for a period of one week to one month for commercial sexual exploitation. Sex trafficking is on the rise as rescues dip in Goa. Let us join the fight to end trafficking. Mukti Kiran believes that involving communities along with the police and enforcement agencies to provide quality service to the victims to reduce this crime. Everyone has something to offer. Let us use our time, talents, and passion to inspire others to support the fight by building awareness in our community.”
Sister Amala of Mukti Kiran said, “We all know about what is happening in Goa on the issue of human trafficking. In order to create awareness, a number of concerned citizens have come together under the banner of Mukti Kiran. This debate is a part of our goal to create awareness among the youth in the schools and colleges. Instead of telling them about human trafficking, we hope the debate will encourage them to study the issue themselves.”
