MARATHON ENTHUSIASTS BRAVE ADVERSE WEATHER FOR RG MARATHON 3.0 –
INCLUSIVE PARTICIPATION BY DISABLED ATHLETES MAKES A MARK
Panaji, 1st October 2023: More than 5,000 enthusiastic Marathon Runners braved the incessant rains that had been lashing the city of Goa for the past 3 days to be flagged off at 5 AM in the morning of 1st Oct. The RG Hospitals’ RG MARATHON 3.0 across 3 categories – 5 Km, 10Km and 21Km. There was also a separate category and route for Differently-Abled Marathon Enthusiasts. The participants gathered for an early morning at 4 am and indulged in some light hearted Warm-Up session comprising of Zumba and stretching moves, gyrating to the tunes of popular Hindi, English, Goan, and pop music. Renowned Runner and fitness enthusiast – Milind Soman who was the Brand Ambassador for this event, ran alongside the participants with his wife Ankita Konwar, also a runner. In the 21 km category, Parasappa Halijo emerged as Winner, followed by Abhishek in 2nd place and Annanot B. Goakar securing 3rd place. 10 km category saw Anubhav clinch 1st place, with Vivek Narayan Mko and Anita Kamalavalli finishing 2nd and 3rd, respectively. In the 5 km category, the top positions went to Omkar Sadanand, Yashraj Balaram, and Dev Narayan.
Milind Soman, who also participated, added an extra layer of excitement, alongside his wife Ankita Konwar remarkable performance in the challenging 21 km run.
The event’s grandeur reached its pinnacle during the award ceremony where winners and participants were awarded with Medals, Certificates, and Cash Rewards. The chief guest Mr Soman was honoured by Dr. Shital Lengade, Chief Nephrologist of RG Hospital. The occasion was graced by an esteemed panel of guests of honour, including DGP of Goa Police, Shri Jaspal Singh; IGP of Goa Police, Shri Omvir Singh Bishnoi, SP (North) of Goa, Shri Nidhin Valsan, Chief Microbiologist of RG Hospital, Dr. Marzook; Head of RG Hospitals Goa Unit, Dr. Anjum; Their presence underscored the significance of this event and RG Hospitals’ commitment to promoting health, fitness, and inclusivity within the community.
RG Marathon 3.0 was well supported by the Goa Athletic Association, Tourism Department (Govt of Goa), Goa police, Pink Force & Panjim Municipal Corporation.
