The New generation is coming forward through the traditional lantern competition and  there is a purpose behind lighting the  lanterns as It works to give scope to the community participation in a big way said  Calangute MLA Michael Lobo  and the urged the siolim MLA to organize competitions from both the constituencies and across Goa and thereby provide a new platform to artists and youth innovators.

Union Minister Shripad Naik said that Diwali works to take people from darkness to light through Akash Kandil while speaking at the prize distribution function of the Akash Kandil competition organized by Parra Citizen Forum and MLA Michael Lobo.

On this occasion, Rajya Sabha MP and Goa State President Sadanand Shet Tanawade, Calangute MLA Michael Lobo, Siolim MLA Delilah Lobo as well as Calangute,siolim  Constituencies Sarpanchas and deputy sarpanchas and , Panch Member, District Panchayat Member and other officials were present along with him.

Rajya Sabha MP Sadanand Shet Tanawade said that the new generation is doing a good job. Akash Kandil is bringing forward the culture of his past through a competition in Parra village and for this Michael Lobo and Delilah Lobo are doing their work for all of Goa and While doing this, MLA Lobo is doing the work of preserving our traditional culture. The entire  Parra village without fail brings their sky lanterns for the competition every year and in this competition they use only traditional materials without using any plastic thermocol.

Speaking, MLA Michael Lobo said that competitions are started every year. Today, nine years of this competition have been completed. Different contests are held for Calangute and siolim constituencies and Akash Kandil is a single contest for whole Goa. The competition is held with the rule that the entire sky lantern should be of traditional style. Around 3000 contestants have participated in this competition. Such competitions will be held at this place every year and he appealed to the youth of the new generation to bring traditional sky lanterns to the competition and win prizes. He also mentioned that such a competition is not held anywhere in the country.

Sanjay Harmalkar, a famous goan painter and examiner, said that today we are forgetting the traditional things. We are moving away from that. But through the Parra Citizen Forum, MLA Michael Lobo gives scope to the new generation to unite the people of Goa by organizing the traditional sky lantern competition on the occasion of Diwali. No one notices that we spend thousands of lakhs of rupees on the road and create a cesspool like pollution, which increases disease. He said that we need to ignore it and turn to manufacturing traditional goods.

Like every year,  gifts of  thousands of rupees were given to Calangute and siolim for the whole of Goa as prizes and the winners were given souvenirs and they were  felicitated with a memento. At the time of this competition, thousands of people participated in the lantern competition and came to see it. Similarly, different cultural programs were also presented at this place, in which a special program of Zee Marathi comedian Sameer Chowgule and actor Chetna Bhat was organized at this place. The whole program was moderated by Pradeep Morajkar and vote of thanks was given by MLA Delillah Lobo.
