National Journalists Day was celebrated on Thursday
National Journalists’ Day was observed on Thursday to symbolize independent and responsible journalism in India. Press Council of India (PCI) started functioning on the same day.
Like the previous years, Goa Editors Guild, Goa Journalists Sangh, Goa Photojournalists Association (PJAG), Sports Journalists Association of Goa (SJAG), Electronic Media Journalists Association of Goa (EMJAG), Dakshin organized the Journalist Day. Chief Minister of Goa Dr. Pramod Sawant was the chief guest. The event began with registration at 9.30 am, followed by an interactive panel discussion on “Challenges and opportunities in journalism under the increasing influence of digital, mobile and social media”.
Times of India Sports Editor Marcus Mergulhao, Senior Journalist Mahesh Ghadi of Prudent Media, Niraj Naik of Digital Goa, Shripad Merchant, Associate Professor of Jnanprasarak Mandal College and Research Center will be participating as speakers in the seminar. So Dai. Lokmat chief representative Vasudev Pagi will play the role of moderator.

The highlight of the event was veteran journalist, Shri. Distinguished Lifetime Achievement Award in Journalism 2023 by Department of Information and Publicity. Pramod Khandeparkar was presented with the award for outstanding contribution in the field of journalism.
On this occasion, five senior journalists were felicitated for their contribution in journalism. Vijay D’Souza, editor of Navhind Times, Senior Journalist of The Goan Everyday, Ashley Ruzario, Dai. Senior journalist Shekhar alias Vilas Mahadik from Phudari, senior journalist Narendra Tari from Gomantak, senior journalist Vithu Sukhdkar of Lokmat and others were present.

In this program, the Chief Minister also awarded journalists and other awards to the winners of the photography competition organized by the department.
