The feast of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception was celebrated with great pomp and religious fervour in several churches across the state on Friday
The feast is preceded by a 9-day spiritual preparation that consists of the Rosary, Mass Sermon and Salve.

For parishioners of Panaji it is was event of great significance and an occasion of great joy to celebrate the feast of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception, the patroness of the parish.
Our Lady of Immaculate Conception is the patroness of the Immaculate Conception Church (Igreja da Imaculada Conceição), which was built in 1541 and is the most famous church in the capital city of Panaji. The Baroque style church was initially a chapel overlooking the city of Panjim, and was later re-built into a larger structure.
on the feast day masses were held at the church as early as 5.30 with the solemn high mass at 10 am the solemn high mass was celebrated by the director of saint Joseph Vaz spiritual centre old Goa Fr Henry Falcao along with other concelebrants
after the high mass a procession was taken out followed by the brass band. There are many stalls put up catering to food stuff, clothes, toys, games, music cd’s, and also copper & steel items There are a number of progammes planned in the parish for the occasion over a period of 3 days.
meanwhile the Parishioners of Saint Alex church Calangute also celebrated the feast of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception. The main celebrant for the solemn high mass was Fr. George Fernandes along with Parish priest Father Polly lobo and other priests.
The Immaculate Conception of Mary, who later became the mother of God, is a dogma of faith proclaimed by Pope Pius IX through his Apostolic Constitution, Ineffabilis Deus (God Ineffable), promulgated on December 8, 1854. he little children, draped in angels’ vestments, sang the hymn, “Noman, Noman Rannie.” The angels walked in a procession down the aisle of the Church led by a flag-bearer, and others carrying the sprinklers and trays of the petals which were then deposited at the feet of the statue of Mother Mary.
The Confrades, men and women, wore Opa (red in colour) and Murça (white in colour) with the President of the Confraria carrying a sceptre, who also joined in the procession.
