“Were these 11 dance bars operating with the support of the local MLA? And are these dance bars are going to be given permissions and licences after this action? It appears that only when the high court intervenes that the government acts. The government machinery is inactive. Why are citizens forced to move courts to seek redressal? Goa’s name has been tarnished in the past 12 years by this BJP government in the name of promoting tourism. Goa’s culture, identity and heritage have been ignored. This government is an event management government,” he said.
He also called for stopping the Sunburn EDM festival, pointing out that tickets are still being sold for 31 December.
“Why is the government promoting this festival? Is this a state festival? This festival should not happen. Drugs are being promoted. Our resources are being used. How did they give licence for the organiser? The organiser is still selling tickets for 31 December. We need to stop this Sunburn. All opposition parties should unite to put an end to this festival,” he said.
Pranav Parab, general secretary, North Goa District Congress Committee, sought to know why the authorties are not taking any proactive measures.
“What kind of Goa is the government promoting in the coastal areas? The decent tourists are shunning the state. Why is special treatment being given for sunburn to run till 12am? Why are organisers of small local events and restaurants facing harrassment and music is stopped even after a minute beyond 10pm when someone complains? The locals of Vagator don’t want Sunburn on 31 December as as they want to run their business. Also, due to the traffic, they get inconvienenced,” he said.
