Thousands of people, locals as well as tourists, ushered in the New Year 2024 amid mid-night masses at churches and fireworks on the beaches in Goa.

Local Christians attended various churches across the state. The ceremony welcoming the New Year began at the churches at 11 pm, and culminated with a mid-night mass at 12 o’clock with the ringing of bells.

Traditional New Year dances were witnessed at various spots across the states .

The beaches came to life from the evening with thousands of revellers. The police  also maintained a close vigil.

A huge rush was seen at popular beaches such as Miramar, Calangute, Candolim, Baga, Sinquerim, Keri, Morjim in North Goa and Colva, Benaulim, Betalbhatim, Palolem and Galjibag in South Goa.

a large number of policemen were also stationed at various points to ensure that law and order was maintained.The police had also set up a special patrolling helpline, he said.

The coastal state is one of the favourite destinations for domestic and foreign tourists to ring in the New Year.

The special bashes organised on the New Year’s eve were also expected to continue till early hours of January 1, and celebrations at some places may spill over to January 2, as the government has relaxed the ban on playing music late at night for two days.

Lanes leading to beach villages in north Goa are the main party arenas.

Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant has extended his best wishes and greetings to the people of Goa on the occasion of New Year, wishing good health, happiness and wellness in every family and a great year for all.

In his message, the Chief Minister said “It is time to look back and reflect on what we have done during the past year. For the unkind things that we might have come across, let us open our hearts and let go of all the harsh feelings. May we also learn a lesson from it”.

The Chief Minister further said, that “The State government has been working ceaselessly for implementing various schemes for the effective welfare of the people. Keeping our determination higher, strengthening spirit and looking forward in the new year, let us march towards self-reliance for making Goa “Swayampurna”  and usher in further progress and development in all spheres.

“I urge the people to strive towards newer and greater goals. Let us recess, reflect and get ready to welcome the New Year 2024 with new hope. I wish everyone a joy and peace. May all have a Blessed, Happy and prosperous New Year 2024,” CM concluded.
