Elected representatives have failed to give a place of honour to the father of Opinion Poll, said Calangute Sarpanch Joseph Sequeira on Tuesday and demanded for the installation of the statue of Dr Jack De Sequeira, in the assembly.
Calangute Sarpanch was speaking at an event after garlanding the statue of Dr Jack De Sequeira in Calangute while celebrating the 56th anniversary of the historic Opinion Poll day when people of Goa decided to maintain its unique identity and refused to merge with Maharashtra.
Sequeira also said that along with the first CM of Goa, Dayanand Bandodkar, the statue of Dr Jack De Sequeira who is the Father of the Opinion Poll should have been standing tall in the precincts of the Assembly.
“Five years ago, the local MLA had said that the statue of Dr Jack De Sequeira will be erected in the assembly the Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardessai has also made a similar promise, but till today nothing has happened ” Sequeira said.
Speaking further, Sequeira said just making statements is of no and the leaders should display their inclination through actions. There is Zero development by Government in Calangute, Panchayat spending own funds for development said Sarpanch Joseph Sequeira.
“The statue of Goa’s first CM Dayanand Bandodkar is in the assembly. It’s good. But why is the statue of Dr Jack De Sequeira not there?” he questioned .
He further said the MLAs should put an effort and at least now erect the statue of the first opposition leader in the assembly.
